Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
I’ve stayed in some phenomenal places all over the world but one certainly sticks out as the best place to lay my head. In Cambodia I got “off the beaten track” and headed to Ban Lung. With only a couple of hotels and few western tourists, my choices were limited. I managed to find the Tree Top Eco Lodge where every single piece of furniture was made from the wood in the surrounding forest. Not only that, but as you sit having breakfast in the open air restaurant, the view over the unspoilt forest was stunning and truly took my breath away.
What's your oddest travel moment?
I‘ve had plenty of odd moments while exploring over the years but the top spot must be my trip to the Favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From the bottom of the Favela you jump on a motorbike taxi which takes you further inside. Unfortunately, my taxi got caught between two buses moving getting closer with me sandwiched in the middle! After some quick thinking from motorbike taxi, I was whisked back to safety and continued up the hill. The tour was fantastic and showed how we can live a world apart from others, without truly realising.
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
My perfect travel moment is all down to my fiancée who created the perfect proposal! Not only did we spend our anniversary on a private island at a beach club in Turkey, but he later found a beautiful spot at the edge of the water for a private and magical sunset proposal. I of course said yes and we celebrated with dinner and bubbles on the rooftop restaurant overlooking the sea. Magical!
What are your suitcase essentials?
I always try to travel light but I am yet to master the skill. No matter the size of my suitcase I am sure to fill it, but my absolute essential is good flip flops. My first pair of Havianas were bought when I visited the Iguacu Falls on the border of Argentina and Brazil and I have never looked back! From day to night, you can explore to your hearts content and still avoid the blisters.
Where's next on your wishlist?
Every year my wish list gets longer rather than shorter! High on the list is scuba diving around the Galapagos Islands, chasing wildlife through the jungles of Madagascar, meeting the nesting turtles in Costa Rica and feeling the heat and passion of Cuba. Basically, if it’s a country that I am yet to visit, it's somewhere I want to go.
