Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
Jade Mountain is perfect in every way. Starting with the mouth-wateringly delicious food, I found myself eating brunch and lunch some days. What I thought was so special is that the rooms only have three walls, leaving the room feeling open and free whilst still feeling totally private. Each room looks out over the majestic Pitons and Caribbean Sea. Our sanctuary had a private infinity pool, the biggest Jacuzzi bath tub I have ever seen and deluxe travel-size Molton Brown toiletries (which I loved!). Our major domo was always on hand to bring us drinks or if we forgot something from the room he would get it and bring it down to the beach. Nothing was too much trouble and the service we received was the best in the world.
What's your oddest travel moment?
I was in line at the security check at Miami airport and was randomly selected to be tested for explosives. I was really surprised when the machine started beeping loudly and the woman shouted across to her manager that I had indeed tested positive. They checked my bags and took me to a security room and after a body search (over my clothes, thank goodness), the women got to my feet and asked me if I had been to the beach that day, to which I responded yes. Apparently the glass in sand is sometimes used in explosives; from now on I will steer clear of the beach before heading to the airport.
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
Yes, I was in the Maldives and had taken a canoe out at sunset; as I was paddling over the crystal clear water I looked over and could see turtles, baby sharks and sting rays swimming below. The sky was turning a bright pink and orange color, the waves were softly breaking off the reef; I felt special that I got to experience something so beautiful. When we checked out and were waiting for our seaplane I sat in the sand and had a little cry. I still miss the Maldives.
What are your suitcase essentials?
Playing cards are a must in my suitcase as a game of poker/gin after a day at the beach is ideal. I also always bring sunscreen, mosquito repellent (as the bugs like me a bit too much) and a wine bottle opener.
Where's next on your wishlist?
I would love to experience the Machu Picchu in Style tour - complete comfort, elegance and sophistication on the Orient-Express. Arriving in Machu Picchu and being wowed by the culture and beauty. My runner-up would have to be Bora Bora -sublime sunsets, crystal clear waters and fantastic food. Count me in!
