Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
From a luxury log cabin in the Canadian Rockies, to a hammock under the stars in the Blue Mountains in Australia, I have been fortunate enough to stay in so many amazing places. The best would have to be camping at the foot of the Redwood trees in Big Sur on the pacific coast of California, and being gently woken by the sound of the waves below. Anywhere where I can immerse myself in nature is where I’m happiest.
What's your oddest travel moment?
I like to get out on the water as much as I can when on vacation, and once when in Naples (Florida) with my family, we hired some kayaks for an early morning paddle through the Lovers Key State Park. As we began paddling we came across a local fisherman who told us to watch out for the 10ft Alligator that had been spotted earlier in the morning; we laughed nervously realising we were rather unprepared should an encounter occur! Soon after we spotted some bubbles in the distance curving towards us which could only be from a creature that swims like that; the Alligator! We manoeuvred the kayaks together; held on and watched as the bubbles drew closer. Luckily for us the bubbles continued straight past us and within a few minutes were gone. I’m not sure that ‘odd’ is the word to describe this experience, but it was certainly unique
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
Out of all of the wonderful destinations I have travelled, the ones that stand out will always involve wildlife. Being such a huge animal lover, seeing them in their natural environment is just a dream. Whilst living in Milford Sound in New Zealand and working as a Nature Guide, we would often be fortunate enough to see Bottlenose Dolphins, Fjordland Crested Penguins & Grey Fur Seals swimming around the Fiord. However, I was once lucky enough to see a mother Humpback Whale nursing her baby calf. She used the Fiord as a safe location away from the main coastline, so we were able to observe her for a few days. It was a truly magical experience and one I will never forge
What are your suitcase essentials?
Reusable water bottle – hydration is key when travelling; and saving this beautiful planet we all want to travel is hugely important to me. Hand sanitiser – an absolute essential when travelling as germs can be spread so easily on planes and in airports; and there is nothing worse than an airplane cold! Blanket scarf – this has so many uses, mainly a scarf, blanket and pillow; a great home comfort that always comes in handy. Monkey – my mother gifted me a little monkey teddy when I first moved away from the UK; and he has travelled with me ever since!
Where's next on your wishlist?
Being so interested in wildlife, it’s only natural for me to be desperate to go on Safari. I would also love to go to Borneo to see the Orangutans; Alaska to see the Polar Bears, as well as many other exotic locations. As I also have a love for the great outdoors so a trip to Nepal and Everest Base Camp is also on my bucket list; although I may need to start training now if I want any hope of actually getting there!
