Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
I spent three weeks on a road trip around New Zealand, taking in the highlights of the North and South Islands. On the South Island we spent a couple of nights in Department of Conservation reserves, which give you the chance to get back to nature and see some of the raw beauty of the New Zealand landscape. One night we wandered our way to the shore of the eternally stunning and secluded Lake Wanaka. It was awesome to throw open the back doors of our campervan in the morning and drink in the view, along with a cup of tea, in such a magical spot.
What's your oddest travel moment?
On a foodie tour in Siem Reap in Cambodia, I spent the evening being whisked around the city on the back of a Vespa. We stopped off at a food market on the road to Angkor Wat where all the locals went for dinner. The local food was delicious but it was only part way through our Cambodian BBQ that the guide pointed out we were eating stuffed frog!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
A special moment that stands out for me has to be whilst on honeymoon in South Africa. Whilst on our first game drive the tracker thought a leopard was in the area so we went in search of her. We found her, perched in a tree with her prey whilst a group of hyenas basked in the evening sun nearby. The mother leopard called out into the bush and after a few moments the grass began to stir and we saw her two baby leopard cubs just a few meters away. The day was perfectly finished with a gin and tonic at a watering hole with the sun setting on the end of the first day of honeymoon - a special moment.
What are your suitcase essentials?
In my suitcase there’s always a Lonely Planet guidebook, my travel blanket for the plane which my granny knitted me, a pair of heels for that nice dinner out and a bottle of hand sanitiser (just in case). I always pack my mini Polaroid printer as well, so I can print off my favourite photos, stick them in my travel journal and record those perfect travel moments.
Where's next on your wishlist?
Later on this year I’m heading to Sri Lanka. I can’t wait to explore the cultural heart of Sri Lanka, pick tea in the Hill Country and spot leopard in the national parks . Next I’d like to experience some of the diverse landscape of South America and one day I’d like to get to Antarctica to see the penguins ... maybe next year!
