Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
Whilst travelling through Sri Lanka, I visited the highlands in Nuwara Eliya to help pluck tea with the local tea pickers. Whilst I was there, I checked into the Heritance Tea Factory Hotel, which was absolutely stunning and had such a British charm about it. Three walls of each room were windows, framing the most beautiful views of the tumbling tea plantations for miles! Truly breath-taking.
What's your oddest travel moment?
Whilst exploring Sri Lanka, I was invited to the house of a local for dinner. Before I knew it, I was shoved on the back of a tuk tuk, and the whole village was out ready taking pictures of my arrival, and I was sat with my boyfriend around a family of ten Sri Lankans, waiting to watch me eat a huge table of food cooked by the grandmother. With no washing facilities and no cutlery to speak of, it was very authentic and very surreal!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
I have had so many perfect travel moments but one of my most memorable would be when I arrived in Hoi An, Vietnam. Multi-coloured lanterns were lit and hung as far as the eye could see, filling whole walkways and doorways. Small paper wishing lanterns sailed down the river, whilst people released them on little canoes. To make things even more amazing and atmospheric, speciality coffee shops lined the rustic Asian roads, baking fresh banana bread that could be smelt all the way down the river….idyllic!
What are your suitcase essentials?
Over the years, I am slowly becoming a much lighter traveller, but my suitcase essentials would definitely be a power bank; this is incredibly useful for keeping your phone or camera recharged on those long day trips, making sure you don’t miss a view point! Also, an extension cable - this means you only need to take one travel plug and it saves the argument of whose phone has more battery percentage! Last but not least, a good sun cream is vital! Being from the North of England, and fair of skin, I am not used to much sun and seem to be prone to turning a little pink!
Where's next on your wishlist?
Latin America is next on my wish list. I would absolutely love to back pack through Brazil (preferably when the Rio carnival is on in February), then fly to Peru and finish with the breath-taking sites of Match Pitchu!
