Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
I'm not sure I could narrow down a hotel in particular but without doubt the Caribbean Island of Anguilla was stunning. For the first time I'd experienced beaches which were exactly as portrayed in brochures; pure white sands and clear blue seas. The hotels I visited were unlike any others I had seen and offered unrivalled service, plus restaurants all over the island offered world class cuisine. What more could you wish for?
What's your oddest travel moment?
This would be during my first trip to Sri Lanka. We were staying in the Kandalama hotel and their rooms have floor to ceiling glass windows, with spectacular views. I should also mention that there are many wild monkeys around the hotel; so one day whilst trying to have a relaxing bath and enjoy the view of the reservoir and Sigiriya Rock, a couple of monkeys decided they were going to sit on the balcony and watch me. Quite surreal!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
Without question, this would be sailing into New York at 4am following a crossing from Southampton. The sight of buildings lit up in Manhattan and passing the Statue of Liberty brought a tear to my eye. I'll never forget it.
What are your suitcase essentials?
A phrasebook, so that I can at least attempt a few words in the native language.I wouldn't go anywhere without my camera, so I can look back over all the memories we made and lavender oil so I'll always have a good nights sleep.
Where's next on your wishlist?
There are far too many places to choose from, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be Buenos Aires.I've always wanted to dance the argentine tango with the locals.
