Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
It has to be the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa in Penang, I was fortunate enough to be upgraded to a Rasa Wing Rasa Premier Room which was bigger than my flat! I have stayed in a number of Shangri-La’s but this one totally exceeded all of my expectations boasting a private balcony with a lavish soaking tub overlooking the sweeping grounds. This hotel is the definition of luxury, the rooms are exceptionally spacious with beautiful furnishings and a gorgeous marble bathroom. Reflecting on Shangri-La’s exemplary service the exclusive Rasa Wing Privileges including complimentary daily tea and cocktails served in the Rasa Wing Lounge are the perfect way to unwind after basking in the sun. CHI, The Spa, at Shangri-La is situated in the most beautiful secluded corner of the resort offering stunning spa villas all equipped with treatment rooms and private gardens this resort is definitely for someone looking to experience pure relaxation.
What's your oddest travel moment?
Whilst staying at the Datai in Langkawi I was in the bathroom and I heard strange noises coming from the lounge area of our room. Having ran out of the bathroom to go and investigate what was going on I came across a monkey raiding our room having got through the bolted french doors leading onto our balcony. As a result of getting into a tug of war with this monkey over a tub of nuts from our mini bar. It came to my attention that this can’t have been the first time that this has happened as the hotel had a designated monkey fund for any items ‘stolen’ from the rooms.
What are your suitcase essentials?
My travel essentials will always include tiger balm which is a necessity when trying to keep the mosquitos away and it is also fantastic in aiding any fuzzy heads after too many cocktails. I also don’t go anywhere without my camera I love to capture all those precious moments of my holidays to look back and reminisce.
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
This is really difficult to choose just the one perfect moment as I really have two that stick in my mind. I will never forget the floating market in Bangkok, riding down the canals in a long-tail boat watching the madness either side of me with the hustle and bustle and the bartering of the sellers and their passer’s by. The canals are completely lined up either side with market stalls with vendors also selling their fresh, local and ready-to-eat produce piled high from within their boats. My second perfect moment would have to be on a sunset cruise in the Maldives sipping cocktails on the deck with dolphins swimming alongside the boat it was a beautiful evening which I will always remember.
Where's next on your wishlist?
I am changing my mind daily in terms of where my travels will lead me to next with my bucket list continually growing. Having travelled around a lot of the Far East I love active holidays, exploring countries with diverse cultures. Currently, next on my wishlist would have to be some of the more remote and unspoilt areas of Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
