Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
Gili Trawangan has to be one the best places I’ve ever stayed. It is one of three tiny islands off the coast of Lombok in Indonesia, where there isn’t a single car. There is such a chilled out feel to the place, with everything centred around the white sand beaches. Swimming in the crystal clear water just offshore I saw so many turtles and the food was incredible, although beware of the chilli sauce!
What's your oddest travel moment?
Whilst visiting Koh Tao in Thailand, a friend of mine was staying across the island in a beach hut. One evening we met up for dinner and he told us how he’d not been able to use his bathroom as there was a huge spider behind the toilet. As someone who isn’t afraid of spiders I agreed to try and remove it. A group of us walked into the bathroom, wanting to see what all the fuss was about and there we could see a large leg poking out beside the toilet. As I slowly peered behind the toilet to try and get it out, a huge crab scuttled out across the bathroom and out of the door! We all collapsed in fits of laughter!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
Visiting the Minneriya national park in Sri Lanka we were told that although there are lots of elephants living in the park, it wasn’t guaranteed that we’d see any. After driving through the park not seeing much wildlife other than a couple of peacocks for the first 20 minutes, I was starting to think we might be unlucky. However we turned the next corner and there in the distance were what looked like a small group of elephants. As we got closer we could see that there were about sixty female elephants with their babies walking right in front of us. To see so many wild elephants in one place was one of the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen.
What are your suitcase essentials?
A good book for any long journeys, a camera to capture those memories and definitely sun cream as I burn way too easily!
Where's next on your wishlist?
There are so many places I would love to visit, however as I’ve never been to the Caribbean this is next on my holiday wish list. St Lucia in particular, with its rainforest adventures and beautiful beaches, as well as the amazing diving and street parties.
