Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
I loved staying on Panglao Island in the Philippines. I stayed on the top floor of a villa near the sea. There were two infinity pools and a great restaurant with great views of the perfect clear blue water. You could book a tour with the hotel that went out to a protected reef. It was so colourful and amazing to see all the different reef fish as well.
What's your oddest travel moment?
I used to work for a theatre company making theatre sets and ballet equipment in Australia. I had left the job in Melbourne as I was due to fly out to New York from Sydney. I was on one of my last walks around the city and stopped beside Sydney Opera House to see what was on. I recognised there was a performance I might have made so I got in touch with my old workplace to find out more. It turned out it was a project I had worked on they had one free ticket to see the show that night! Not only was this the first show I saw at the opera house but it was the opening night so I was one of the few people walking down the red carpet alongside the cast, crew & director Julie Andrews!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
It’s tough to decide because travel makes memories wherever you go. I think it was great to have stayed on Manhattan, New York. I got up in the morning, went to a great local bagel café and sat eating my breakfast in central park watching the world go by as if I was in a film.
What are your suitcase essentials?
When returning to the UK I try and pack as much as I can really stretching to the edges of the weight limit on the flights. Remember to pack light on the way out as you might need room for those wines you happened to like tasting or those clothes you just can’t live without. I would recommend taking a few good pairs of shoes and although I try not to use it too much I would take my phone. It’s great for finding places to go, keeping in touch with the family, getting flight details to check in and of course taking lots of pictures!
Where's next on your wishlist?
There are quite a few places on my list! I was inspired by the stories I heard in Australia about the places that not many people get a chance to see – the Pacific islands including Fiji, The Galapagos Islands, Easter Island and so on!
