Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
One of the most luxurious places I have ever stayed would have to be Atlantis on the world-famous Palm Island in Dubai. The resort is so large it boasts its own Water Park and gigantic Aquarium. I stayed at the resort during Ramadan so also got to experience the joy of participating in many evening ‘Iftar’ meals
What's your oddest travel moment?
One of my oddest travel moments would have to be visiting Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. Although only around an hours drive away, the contrast between the two areas was vast. Tel Aviv is a modern city with a vibrant nightlife, and Jerusalem is arguably one of the most famous religious sites in the world. On arriving I went down to the Wailing Wall which was just as awe-inspiring as I had imagined. Nearby, a Bah Mitzvah was in full swing, sweets were being thrown in the air by young boys and girls, and the air was filled with unfamiliar music and songs. The whole scene was unlike anything I have ever experienced before!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
A memory I look back on very fondly is a trip I took up the Empire State building in New York with my partner at around 11 O’clock in the evening. The queues of daytime tourists had long gone, so we waltzed straight up to the lifts to take us up to the viewing floor. Once up there we were amongst a small handful of other visitors making the experience all the more special. The views were incredible, and looking out over the whole of New York all lit up was truly unforgettable.
What are your suitcase essentials?
Having spent the last few years out of the county as much as in it I feel like I’ve become a pro at packing a suitcase! My favourite suitcase discovery has been a set of ‘suitcase organiser’ bags where you can sort your suitcase into different sections for shoes, swimwear, toiletries etc.. A camera is also a given, it’s wonderful to capture memories to look back on once you’ve returned home. Last but not least is definitely a book (or 5). Being away is the perfect time to catch up on my ever expanding ‘to read’ list.
Where's next on your wishlist?
I can’t wait to visit Sri Lanka and The Maldives at the end of this year, but after this the next places on my forever increasing list are Kyoto in Japan, The Great Wall of China, Vietnam, Petra in Jordan, and finally I’d love to do the route 66 drive in the USA.
