Where's the best place you've ever stayed?

Without a doubt The Oberoi Amarvilla’s property in Agra, India. Within walking distance of the celebrated monument, and new world wonder, this has got to be one of India's finest hotels. Every single room has a view of the beautiful and iconic Taj Mahal. The décor is absolutely mesmerising, the grounds of the property are stunning and of course the backdrop is as ever, breath taking. Each evening they have a folk dancer and musician perform on the sundeck, at sunset. So as you gaze from the hotel terrace over to the Taj Mahal, should your eyes flicker slightly down and to the left, you can watch a traditional Indian dance whilst letting the music compliment the entire atmosphere. Everyone gazes out in silence, taking in the beautiful scene before them at sunset. That is something that will always stay with me, and a memory I will hold on to!

What's your oddest travel moment?

When visiting Israel in 2015, I was sunbathing on the beach with my headphones on, watching the yachts come and go out of Herzliya Marina, when the lifeguard started ushering me up and pointing towards the pavement. I took off my headphones in order to hear him better, and I heard the loud and booming sound of the air raid siren. The lifeguard gathered some others off the beach and took us to a shelter, built into the hotel. He pointed to the sky to show us the rocket that had been shot by Hamas, into Tel Aviv airspace. You could see the rocket, having almost immediately been intercepted and shot down by the Israelis, falling towards the ground in the distance. The most bizarre, and potentially frightening experience – but in beautiful surroundings at least!

Have you had a perfect travel moment?

My perfect travel moment has to be when my partner and I were in Cape Town for Christmas last year. I booked us a table at The Ritz restaurant, in Sea Point which had a revolving top floor restaurant. The restaurant revolved slowly, once per hour, and had incredible views of the city, the ocean and Lions Head mount. I booked to coordinate our dinner with the local time of sunset, and whilst we ate our 5 course dinner, we watched the sunset over the Southern Ocean on Christmas Day! One of my most memorable experiences – and romantic too!

What are your suitcase essentials?

I always have to ensure I have a VPN connection on my iPad, so I can stay up to date with plenty of English TV, which is my guilty pleasure whilst I’m away!

Where's next on your wishlist?

I would love to visit more of the Caribbean and feel the differences between each island. A self-drive through the southern states of the USA would be exciting, as I'd like to tick off more places in one of my favourite countries! The Tea Plantations in Sri Lanka are on my bucket list, as they look absolutely breath taking, and also to travel through Italy on a very diet focused itinerary - Prosecco in the north, Pasta in Puglia and Gelato in Sicily!

Gemma’s love of travel started when her family brought a Maison Secondaire in France, and encouraged her to study French in order to be able to communicate with and discover a new country & culture. Since then, her desire to travel grew when she joined British Airways at the young age of 18, working as Cabin Crew in the First Class Cabin, serving both long haul and short haul routes worldwide. This role enabled her to travel the world, spending each week in a different continent and time zone.
