Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
One of the most memorable holidays I have experienced was a family trip to the amazing country of Kenya. We went on a whirlwind tour of the safari parks, taking in the sights and sounds of the African fauna. As a lifelong animal lover it was so breath-taking to see the animals in their own habitat. All the parks were so unique, one day we would be trying to squeeze past monkeys to get in to the hotel room, the next we would be on a boat looking for hippos!
What's your oddest travel moment?
Back when I was a student I volunteered at a safari park in South Africa for a few weeks. I was extremely lucky that the owners of the park were very generous and really let us get stuck in to the running of the park. One of their specialities was taking care of rare antelope breeds. One of the breeds was particularly skittish, and would scamper from the wardens if they were in trouble or needed medicine. To help with this, we were asked to read stories to them at a young age to make them more familiar humans! Reading stories to an audience of timid antelope calves was a very surreal experience, but so rewarding as I started to bond with them.
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
Whilst living abroad I have been very lucky to experience some of the most sought after moments in the best way. Something that has always stuck with me was walking around Venice early in the morning when all the streets were completely empty. Seeing the sun rise on St Mark’s Square was absolutely stunning.
What are your suitcase essentials?
I always make a point to pick up a travel guide, so I can make the most of my time away and don’t miss anything. My kindle or a good paperback is a must too for any chilled days!
Where's next on your wishlist?
Tough one as any time I see a photo of somewhere I immediately want to go! At the moment the current crushes are Bali and ….. But I have always wanted to go on a road trip around Italy to see all the little villages. The Inca ruins in Peru have also been on the list for a few years!
