Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
I have stayed in some marvellous places around the world but the place with the most memorable wow factor has to be Le Tousserok in Mauritius. I was given a huge Ocean Suite with personal butler! When I opened the double doors to the patio, it led right onto the white sandy beach where the setting sun left a glistening trail across the ocean whilst the waves lapped against the shoreﾅheaven.
What's your oddest travel moment?
I was in Langkawi and took my camera onto the balcony to take a few sunset snaps. Just as I'd aimed my camera at the pink and blue sky, I heard a rustle and a growl. Right above me staring down was a rather large monkey! I panicked, ran inside and locked the door whilst peering at the offender through the glass. After I calmed down, I realised my camera was missing! I had security scouring the grounds to no avail and I accused every monkey that I saw! The next day, I opened the tea box in my room and spotted my camera! Was this pure madness on my part, or perhaps it was monkey magicﾅ
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
My passion is ancient history and I have dabbled in Egyptology so my perfect moment was in Luxor's Karnak Temple. At night, the face of Ramses was lit up and the myths and legends of the building of this great monument were being told by a booming disembodied voice wandering around the towering lotus pillars. It made me feel like the veil between the past and present was really thin and I could almost hear the chanting of the priests as they gave offerings to the god Raﾅ
What are your suitcase essentials?
My kindle has to be number one as I can drift off into another world on long flights. I also swear by Savlon for stings bites, blisters and even sunburn! Comfy shoes are a must as I always end up wandering round historical sites for hours on end! My guilty pleasure that always resides at the bottom of my suitcase is a few small bars of Dairy Milk Fruit & Nut!
Where's next on your wishlist?
At the moment my heart seems to belong to Asia and Indochina! I love the art, the history, the people and the food! So next on my wishlist will be Thailand followed by Vietnam.
"I was very favourably impressed by Donna Howard. She was quick, thorough, very helpful and seemed knowledgeable about our destination. She was also very pleasant and so a pleasure to deal with. We would certainly recommend Kuoni, and often do."
