Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
There is one place for me that always stands out in my mind, Yudanaka, a beautiful town deep in the northern mountains of the Japanese Alps. I stayed in an incredible traditional ryokan with local food and lovely hosts. The ryokan was so quiet and tranquil, with Japanese gardens and outdoor hot spring baths to relax in after a day trekking up to see the fascinating Macaque Monkeys. I’d love to go back one day!
What's your oddest travel moment?
There has definitely been a few, but the most memorable would be staying in a mud hut in Sri Lanka more or less completely outside. It was our first stop on our Sri Lankan trip and despite being something I’ll never forget, it was certainly an odd experience. We brushed our teeth with tree frogs coming up from the plug hole, took showers outside and slept in little bedrooms made entirely from mud. It was amazing, but it was very unusual.
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
Absolutely, Australia holds a lot of special memories for me but this is one of my favourites. I took a sailing trip with some friends in Airlie Beach to visit the Whitehaven Beach and snorkel over the Great Barrier Reef. The sunsets we experienced while sailing the calm waters were simply out of this world. Whenever I think back to sitting on the edge of that boat, watching the deep orange sun set over the ocean, I am experiencing that magical moment all over again.
What are your suitcase essentials?
A portable speaker and a Spotify playlist! You never know when you might need to supply the music for the holiday soundtrack.
Where's next on your wishlist?
Mauritius! It without a doubt looks like the most gorgeous island on the planet.
