Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
This would have to be Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada for my honeymoon. The hotel has the service absolutely right, every member of staff seems to know your name and they greet you every time they see you. They ran a Jacuzzi bath and placed a beautiful chilled bottle of champagne on the side for us to enjoy. What a fantastic way to start married life!
What's your oddest travel moment?
It would have to be in Egypt, we got into a taxi back to our hotel and wasn't prepared for what was inside! The taxi was covered in coins from all over the world, the driver asks passengers for any coins and then glues them to the car's interior! We were then told not to move the mat in the back of the car near our feet - we found this strange so we asked why, to be told that the car had no floor and just a thin piece of wood beneath a carpet rug! We were glad it was only a short journey!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
I would have to say that this is in the Maldives, I was there visiting the Diamonds Thudufushi Beach & Water Villas and they had arranged a lovely snorkelling trip - I am not a great swimmer and do not like putting my face in water but I braved it and gave it a go. The reef was nothing like I had ever seen before and we were lucky enough to have some turtles follow us along our trip and they stayed with us until we had finished. From this day I was truly hooked and will never forget this experience.
What are your suitcase essentials?
I would say that I could not travel without a good book. Even if I am travelling on a relaxing or an adventure holiday, I always like to find that moment where I can relax with a nice cocktail.
Where's next on your wishlist?
On my wish list would be drive from New Orleans to Los Angeles, taking in some of Route 66 and stopping in towns along the way. With Kuoni, we get to look at amazing places everyday so we do change our minds quite frequently!
"We found Dawn at your Manchester shop extremely knowledgeable. She was most helpful - nothing was too much trouble and she gave us several options."
