Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
I’ll never forget staying at a beautiful safari lodge called Ant’s Hill, 3 hours north of Johannesburg, South Africa. It was a fantastic place, where, by riding on horseback, we were able to get up much closer than usual to the wild animals. On one occasion, the staff there set up our lunch in the middle of the bush near a small lake, and we were served a fabulous meal watching zebras, giraffe and our own horses all going for a drink at the same time. It was a fabulous experience.
What's your oddest travel moment?
When I was a student in Vancouver, I spent a month on a ranch in the mountains of British Columbia to learn how the real cowboys live. One time, we were helping to fix a fence when a huge black bear appeared suddenly out of nowhere! We were ready to run for our lives, but fortunately, we had a brave Pyrenean mountain dog with us. He ran straight up to the bear and managed to scare him away. Phew!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
I once went for a horseback ride with my fiancé and a guide on a beach in Eleuthera, a magical island in the Bahamas. We rode into the ocean with the horses and within just a few minutes were joined there by a dolphin! It came right up to us, seemingly very curious about the horses, and kept swimming in big circles around me and our guide. I felt so lucky, and it really felt like a dream moment.
What are your suitcase essentials?
I never go on holiday without my Kindle, and a few of my favourite magazines. Plus an eye-mask and earplugs sometimes can really help to sleep and 'recharge the batteries’.
Where's next on your wishlist?
The world is simply full of exciting places to choose from. I would absolutely love to go on a cruise to visit the Galapagos Islands. Also, I would love to keep exploring central and southern Africa, maybe even one day going on safari in Tanzania
