Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
After travelling for a year and staying in various hostels and budget hotels, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to four nights in Atlantis The Palm, Dubai. To stay in a 5 star hotel after so long in budget accommodation, we were in our element! We were lucky enough to bag a room upgrade and the ocean view was incredible. To have a big comfortable bed each, four soft pillows, a duck feather duvet, slippers, dressing gown and a huge spa bath, we felt like royalty! Sometimes it’s the small things that make accommodation a 10/10!
What's your oddest travel moment?
I think a big part of travelling is who you meet along the way and how they become a big part of your experience and memories. I spent Christmas on a remote island in Fiji where there were only 8 guests staying on the island. I started speaking to one girl and after a short while we realised that not only were we from the same town, but we also went to the same Secondary School and were in the same year! We were completely astounded. We had not seen each other since we left school 12 years ago, but here we were on a tiny island spending Christmas together. It makes you realise what a small world it really is!
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
A dream of mine has always been to watch the New Years Eve Sydney fireworks, so last year we paid to go to an event in the Royal Botanic Gardens where we had drinks, canapes and dancing before being led down to the water by fire dancers and gymnasts. We were greeted with a glass of champagne and had an amazing view of the Royal Opera House. We counted down to midnight, then suddenly the sky was lit up with beautiful colours and it was more amazing than I could have ever imagined. The atmosphere was just incredible, it was the best way to end one year and start the next; it made me very excited for the year to come.
What are your suitcase essentials?
I always make sure I have my phone and charger on me, so I can capture every moment, stay in touch with family and listen to music during my travels. I love to read while relaxing on the beach so my Kindle goes everywhere with me. I also can’t forget my memory foam neck pillow which is an absolute lifesaver for any flight.
Where's next on your wishlist?
The list is never ending! But if I had to choose it would be South Africa to see the Big 5 and Table Mountain. If I could finish the trip off with some time on the beautiful beaches of Mauritius, that would be the dream.
