Where's the best place you've ever stayed?
It has to be in the Masai Mara in Kenya, having all the animals walk through your accommodation is like something out of a dream! Watching the sunset landscape from my table and searching for The Big Five was truly unforgettable. I even adopted an elephant called Luggard, so at least I can feel like a part of me is still in Kenya.
What's your oddest travel moment?
When I was living in America, I applied to stay in New York but what I didn't know was that this could be anywhere in the state! Fast forward a few days and I found myself in the Adirondack mountains, in a wooden shack with a metal bed frame, 5 hours away from the nearest shop! The views were beautiful, especially of the lakes and the sunset, so the bed frame was a small price to pay for the beauty of the area.
Have you had a perfect travel moment?
When I travelled to Monaco and Monte Carlo, I visited the famous harbour and got all dressed up, grabbed an ice cream and wandered down the harbour looking at the super-yachts. This is where I discovered my taste for the finer things in life, after dining at Le Louis XV and looking through the Promenade. We also managed to stay close enough to the Circuit de Monaco to catch some of the Formula 1.
What are your suitcase essentials?
Tasting local cuisine is a highlight of any holiday for me, but I love to take teabags no matter where I go! You just can't beat the taste of English tea at the end of a long days travelling
Where's next on your wishlist?
Definitely Sri Lanka and Vietnam so that I can put my history degree to use and learn even more about such beautiful countries, steeped in history and culture.
