Where's the best place you've ever stayed?

Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort and Spa in Borneo was pure luxury with its romantic premier ocean wing room which included a Jacuzzi on the balcony so you can unwind whilst looking out onto spectacular views of the surrounding jungle and sea. At night the sunset view from the balcony was truly special. The resort is set within a large nature reserve and offers the opportunity to go on canopy walks, bird-watching, guided jungle trails and nocturnal wildlife viewing; perfect for wildlife lovers like myself.

What's your oddest travel moment?

I would say most of my travels in India could be considered odd. The culture and way of life in India is so foreign from western culture that it takes a while to become accustomed to. Once I became familiar to the Indian way of life I fell in love with the culture and the friendliness and devotion of the local people.

Have you had a perfect travel moment?

My stay in a rainforest lodge in the heart of the Brazilian amazon was a magical experience with a cacophony of wildlife sounds coming to life at sunset. We canoed into the middle of the Amazon River and watched the sunrise, the stillness and calm of the rainforest at this time of day was the most peace I have ever experienced.

What are your suitcase essentials?

I always ensure I have my trekking sandals or boots packed to allow me to explore and hike around any landscape which I encounter. I find the best way to explore a new country then to walk around to take in the sights, smells and atmosphere of the area. Earplugs are another must especially in bustling cities and on the plane journey to ensure I have a good night sleep so I’m fresh and energetic for a full day of exploration.

Where's next on your wishlist?

I am very eager to travel around Costa Rica to spend time in the cloud rainforest and national parks to see the wide diversity of exotic wildlife, as an avid bird watcher Costa Rica with over 800 bird species would be my paradise. The scenery in Costa Rica is breath-taking with its mixture of volcanoes, jungle and beaches.

Artemis developed the travel bug after taking her first Kuoni escorted tour around Thailand which opened her mind to new cultures, food, landscapes and wildlife. Her favourite type of travel involves jungle and wildlife trips with an opportunity to experience the local culture and cuisine of the country. Artemis has a passion for natural medicine and had the opportunity to spend five months in India studying Ayurveda, a traditional type of Indian medicine whilst sampling the luxurious spa treatments of the region.
